THE TENTS

Are the Tents Weatherproof?

The exteriors are made in heavy grade canvas and will withstand heavy and prolonged rain without leakage provided that the guy ropes are set to keep the roof taut. We have never had a leakage problem.

Are They Warm?

Very: they are significantly warmer than a conventional PVC marquee. They are exceptionally well insulated and heating is rarely required.

How Are They Heated?

By fan-driven warm air piped into the tents from exterior oil-powered heaters.

What About Doors?

There is a door in every wall. These can be left closed or rolled up as required.

How Many People Do They Hold?

See the Other Interiors section below for information on larger event spaces.

When furnished Arab-style the comfortable capacities of the tents is:

  • 4m x 4m: 15-20 guests
  • 7m x 5m: 35-40 guests
  • 9m x 6m: 50-60 guests

If instead you intend to seat everyone at conventional tables the capacities are:

  • 4m x 4m: 10-12 diners
  • 7m x 5m: 30-40 diners
  • 9m x 6m: 48-60 diners

What Sort of Surface Can They Be Placed On?

Lawn, ideally, or any reasonably flat grassed area. They cannot be erected on hardstandings since the guy ropes are secured by metal groundpegs some 15 inches long.

However we can convert a freestanding frame marquee into an Arabian interior which matches that of the tents.

How Much Room is Required?

The guy ropes need to run to pegs placed at least 1 meter from the tent walls, ideally 1 1/2 metres. The minimum overall 'foot-prints' of the structures are thus:

  • 4m x 4m tent 6m x 6m
  • 7m x 5m tent 9m x 7m
  • 9m x 6m tent 11m x 8m

Some compromise on these measurements is possible, particularly when guy ropes can be fixed on a relatively short run to trees or other fixtures rather than to ground pegs.

Can They Be Joined?

Not strictly speaking. Tents can be placed with open walls adjacent (ie, open side to open side) so as to create an undivided single enclosure, but the join would not be weatherproof. The guy ropes prevent an edge-to-edge join.

Can They Be Joined to a Building?

Not easily. We'd need to look at the building in question and decide how this could best be done.

How Many Sides Can Be Opened?

All of them.

How Long Does It Take to Erect Them?

Much depends on what sizes are involved, how many tents, and the nature of the site. Most set-ups can be erected, furnished and lit in a single day.

We prefer to put the tents up in dry weather, but this is not a limiting factor.

When Do You Put Them Up?

Usually, at least one day before the planned event. Earlier, if the weather warrants it, or the client requires it.

When Do You Take Them Down?

One or two days after the event (typically, on Mondays or Tuesdays). We like to have a little flexibility on this, taking the tents down in a dry period if at all possible.

How Long Does That Take?

A lot less time than it takes to put them up! Half a day is normally sufficient to clear the site.

See some examples in our Gallery.

OTHER INTERIORS

Tents Apart, Can You 'Arabianise' the Interior of Conventional Marquees or Other Buildings?

Very much so, this is an area of our expertise. We can create an authentic Arabian interior in standard frame marquees, barns, village halls, studios or any similar structures of reasonable size, to accomodate virtually any number of people.

We can help you at any time of the year and in virtually any location.

What Dimensions Can You Work to?

We normally need a ceiling height of a least 12 feet.

How Do You Attach the Linings?

Inside a clear span marquee we can fix to the existing structure. Elsewhere rafters and beams can be used, or if necessary a basic scaffolding frame might be required.

How Long Does it Take?

The linings for even a large space can be completed within a day. For a large furnished event up to another day may be required to place carpets, furnishings and lighting.

See some examples in our Gallery.

GENERAL INFORMATION

How Much Space Should I Allow Per Person?

It depends entirely on what functions the tent or interior is to fulfil: dining, buffet, bar, reception, chill-out, dancing - or a combination of these. We'll be happy to guide you.

What Sort of Access Do You Need?

All the equipment can be carried through a typical garden gate (30 inches width). Access is required within a reasonable distance of the event for Luton-type vans.

What About Power Supply?

Normally the lighting can be powered from a 13-amp domestic supply or generator. Oasis switchboards and dimmers will enable you to control lighting levels.
